Two Exciting Alzheimer’s Advances: A Novel Early Detection Test Using Peanut Butter, and a Study Evaluating Coconut Oil

By Dr. Mercola

'At present, some 5.4 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Alzheimer's Association's 2011 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures.1

By 2050, this is expected to jump to 16 million, and in the next 20 years it is projected that Alzheimer's will affect one in four Americans, rivaling the current prevalence of obesity and diabetes.

Since treatments are few and rarely effective, early diagnosis and prevention become all the more important.

Interestingly, simple tools like a table spoon of peanut butter and a ruler could potentially be used to confirm a diagnosis of the disease in its early stages. As reported by Medical News Today.'

Antidepressants No Better Than Placebo: JAMA Study

'A study just published in JAMA Jan 5, reported that SSRI antidepressants are no better than placebo for most cases of depression. The authors reviewed 30 years of data and concluded that "the benefit of antidepressant medication compared with placebo may be minimal or nonexistent in patients with mild or moderate symptoms".

Of course, this is old news, and reminds me of the famous scene in 1942 film, Casablanca, where Captain Louis Renault declares, " I am Shocked, Shocked ... to find gambling here....Here is your winnings... Oh thank you."

Better than Placebo for Severe Depression

I should add that the study found antidepressants work better than placebo for severe depression. This is not surprising, since virtually any psycho-stimulant can be found useful for the most the severely depressed patient.'

The Colder The Processing Of Olive Oil, The Higher The Immune-Boosting Properties

'Olive oil is as old as the ancients, described by Homer, the bard of Classical Greece, as liquid gold. However, in the retail sector, olive oil brands are far from equal in quality. They have come under great scrutiny due to inferior processing and impure formulas, many which contain nut and seed oils, a well kept secret within the industry. Several significant factors impact the antioxidant value of olive oil: late harvest, mechanical agitation, slow to press, high heat and filtering. Choosing to by-pass these common trappings ensures our olive oil maintains the highest antioxidant and energetic value and its status as a "Raw Super Food".'

5 Reasons I Won’t Get a Tetanus Shot

When to Get a Tetanus Shot - Holistic Squid

'Everyone knows that if you step on a rusty nail you’d better get a tetanus shot, right? Well, my gut was has been saying no for this vaccine, but I honestly wasn’t sure what I’d do if one of my outdoor roaming kids came home with a dirty, nasty cut. So I decided to do some research…

Tetanus, sometimes called ‘lockjaw’, is caused when the tetanus bacteria (Clostridium tetani) gets in the blood stream and releases a nervous system toxin called tetanospasmin.

Most tetanus comes from soil, animal feces or dust. Puncture wounds are notable because tetanus-harboring dirt or dust collected on the sharp object and be driven into the body. The nail is simply the carrier of the bacteria into the body’s blood stream. (source)

When there’s enough oxygen to a wound, the tetanus bacteria can’t survive and its toxin won’t proliferate. In cases when the bacteria thrives, the infected person may experience stiffening of the jaw and other major muscles, severe muscle spasms, headaches, fever, trouble swallowing, and even death.'

Can a Root Canal Make You Sick?

'I know from experience that the dental bill for a root canal can make you sick to your stomach, but did you know that the root canal itself can be at the “root” of many illnesses. Please don’t blindly buy into the mentality that a root canal is your only option. In the United States alone, over 41,000 of these are performed per day and an estimated 25 million per year! OUCH!'

Osteoporisis is Scurvy of the bone, not calcium deficiency

'It saddens me to see older women diagnosed with “osteopenia” or “osteoporosis” listening to their doctors and taking supplemental calcium and even problematic drugs called bisphosphonates. These are irrational, dogmatic, harmful approaches to the problem of degrading bone as we age.

In my time practicing nephrology and internal medicine, I saw numerous patients suffering from vascular disease while taking the recommended doses of calcium. X-rays revealed perfect outlines of calcified blood vessels and calcified heart valves.'

Plants Exhibit The Same Senses As Humans And See, Touch, Smell, Hear and Even Taste

'Have you ever wondered what the grass under your feet feels, what an apple tree smells, or a marigold sees? Plants stimulate our senses constantly, but most of us never consider them as sensory beings too. In fact senses are extremely important to plants.

Whatever life throws at them, they remain rooted to the spot - they cannot migrate in search of food, escape a swarm of locusts or find shelter from a storm. To grow and survive in unpredictable conditions, plants need to sense their environment and react accordingly.

Some people may not be comfortable describing what plants do as seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching. They certainly lack noses, eyes, ears, mouths and skin, but in what follows, I hope to convince you that the sensory world of plants is not so very different from our own.'

The vaccine mafia and its jury of thugs: your rulers

'I’ve written several articles on this subject . As vaccine supporters, enthusiasts, liars, and poisoners keep showing up, I’m sure I’ll write several more.

Here’s the drill. If a parent believes her child has developed autism as the result of a vaccine(s), she must enter the maze of the US government compensation system. Why? Because she can no longer go to court and sue the vaccine manufacturer directly. That’s out.

The manufacturers and the federal government have conspired to erect a wall against those lawsuits, to protect the manufacturers from high-priced judgments.

The government maze the parent enters and suffers through is called the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). It’s a nightmare.'

Are Antibiotics as Safe and Effective as You Think?

'We live in a culture reliant on medical interventions as a way to be healthy, one of the most common being antibiotics. Many people are falsely under the impression that antibiotics are necessary when signs of illness occur. Symptoms such as fever, chills and fatigue usually result in a visit to the doctor to receive a prescription, which the doctor writes without hesitation. With prescriptions for antibiotics being handed out so freely their can't be much risk. Or is there? This article will discuss how recent research is showing that antibiotic drugs aren't as safe and effective as the majority of people are led to believe.'

'Kidney stones are often called the worst pain on earth. Personal horror stories abound about them. No wonder, look at the photo, can you imagine passing that? It’s easy to believe that horrific pain would be the only sign you’ve developed a kidney stone, but what if there are other early warning signs? Great news, there are signs that you have an impending stone, and being aware might give you enough time to deal with it before the pain really hits.'

Wine Poached Pears

'Wine Poached Pears is one of those beautifully presented desserts that is so easy to make, it almost feels like cheating. After a day of decorating our minimalist Christmas tree last year, this elegant dessert topped off a meal of Greek Pork enjoyed with friends.

As a minimalist, I prefer to make desserts that don’t require a variety of equipment or special pans. This one is great, because it looks so beautiful and yet requires so little.

Wine Poached Pears are a definite favorite at our house. You can see the mouths begin to water anytime someone brings it up, and really, no one wants to wait for a special occasion to have it again.'

Apricot seed cyanide controversy foolishly obscures an effective alternative cancer cure

The mere mention of consuming apple seeds, cherry pits, apricot seeds, or bitter almonds tends to cause almost panic attacks or angry reactions in some. Why? Cyanide is in them. So they're justified in freaking out, right?

As a rumor based on too little knowledge, their concern is understandable. (...)

But as the saying goes, "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing." In this case the fear of fruit seeds and bitter almonds and other nuts is based on incomplete data. The compound containing cyanide is amygdalin.

Top 5 Reasons Not to Vaccinate Your Children

'Should you vaccinate your children? Or not? Making the decision whether or not to vaccinate your child is difficult, especially for those who are on the fence. It’s not a choice that should be made lightly. It’s important to cut through the heat of the controversy and discover what the real issues are and make an informed decision.

I only decided not to vaccinate my daughter after researching the subject on my own and concluding that the benefits of vaccination do not outweigh the risks. And the risks can be extremely serious.
Here are five succinct reasons not to vaccinate your children. This is not an exhaustive list. If you are on the fence, you can use it as a starting point to dig deeper. If you already made the decision not to vaccinate, you can pass this along to friends and family who may have questions.'

The Powerful Healing Qualities of Rosemary Essential Oil

'There is something simply enchanting about the herb rosemary. Perhaps it is the the aromatic woodsy fragrance and the simple beauty of it’s feathery fronds. Or perhaps it is the delicate taste that rosemary lends to soups, stews and brewed teas.  For me, it is the powerful healing qualities of rosemary essential oil.

Rosemary is a lovely shrub-like green plant with pale blue flowers and long, needle-like leaves. The aromatic leaves and part of the flowers are used to produce essential oil.  Although native to the seaside regions of North Africa and the Mediterranean, today rosemary grows in other parts of the world and is quite prolific.'

How to Optimize Your Supplement Intake

'What’s the best way to take your supplements? We get this question a lot here at Life Extension, and the best short answer we can offer is “it depends.”

You see, most multivitamin or multinutrient formulas combine vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients together, and they can be conveniently taken in just one or a few doses a day.

If you’re going this route exclusively, things are pretty simple.

However, many nutritional “purists” prefer to buy their nutrients individually and take them on specifically tailored schedules in order to help maximize their absorption. This, of course, can be a bit more complicated.

So if you’re a “die hard” nutrient seeker looking for pointers on what to take when and why, here are some guidelines to help you get the most out of the supplements you take. Enjoy!'

'The sweet scent of lavender connotes flowers on the hillside and romance, but there is much more to this versatile herb. Lavender has many uses, with a long history in medicinal healing of humans and animals. The scent of lavender is associated with comfort, and aromatherapists have long used lavender in the treatment of depression and nervous conditions. Though mainstream medicine has regarded aromatherapy as an unproven treatment, a recent study in Japan has shown that lavender can restore your immune system.'

14 Things People Probably Do Not Want To Know About Their Favorite Foods

'There are hundreds of food industry facts that are sheltered from consumers and only made public by food scientists if absolutely necessary. The following are 14 of the more well known industry insider secrets that have been exposed now for some time, but still not common knowledge to millions of consumers.

Many consumer watchdogs have found that food label claims such as ‘pure’, ‘fresh’, ‘non-artificial’, ‘natural’ and ‘real’ are largely unregulated and false when these claims are investigated. Moreover, the processing of most foods, ingredients used in manufacturing, their byproducts, waste management and other details are often kept hidden from the public until they've been exposed by those willing to publicize the information.'

New research is finding that oil of oregano is as effective against colitis as prescription drugs without the harmful side effects. It is also able to regenerate liver cells.'

Sleep Is Overrated – Time to End the 8-Hour Sleep Myth!

'You’ve heard it before. To be healthy, we need to drink eight glasses of water a day. And get eight hours of sleep per night. Oh, and eight is the lucky number in Chinese. Coincidence?

In the natural health world, sleep is praised for its restorative values. Followers of the 30 BananasaDay raw food website are told that they can’t sleep too much. In fact: the more sleep, the better. (Just like they are told that they can’t eat too much fruit, and the more they eat, the better.)

Eight hours is the minimum. People seeking peak performance are told to get 8, 9, 10, or even 12 hours of sleep a night.

People will do anything to catch up on this precious sleep: sleep in on weekends, use the “snooze” button profusely, and sleep 10-12 hours a day while on vacation (while falling asleep in a stupor of rum and coke and margaritas).'

DIY supernatural cold, flu and even plague tonic elixir

'The cold and flu season has officially arrived. Are you adequately prepared? Presumably, you’ve tossed Big Pharma’s toxic, deadly flu shots and side effect-laden, symptom-suppressing, over-the-counter (OTC) cold and flu medications into the trash.

Yet a nagging concern remains: What would you do if you or your loved ones were exposed to a killer viral, bacterial, fungal or parasitic infection that conventional remedies or even popular, alternative medicine couldn’t handle?

What if I told you that you could easily make an inexpensive, powerful, immune-boosting, modern day plague tonic on your kitchen table from herbs and vegetables readily available at most food markets?'

Lymphoma, Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Healed with Laetrile (Sandi Rog)

“I am not a doctor, nor is vitamin B17 approved by the FDA. All I know is that I am cancer free because of taking this simple vitamin.”  Sandi Rog

Sandi is the author of several books, a loving wife and mother to four children, as well as a Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma survivor.  She says that her journey with poor health began with a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis several years ago for which she was prescribed various medications.  The oncologist who later treated her for the lymphoma told her that these drugs most likely played a role in the development of her cancer.'

10yr old Amish girl flees U.S. to escape chemo. Exclusive Interview.

'I have an exclusive interview with Isaac Keim, grandfather of Sarah Hershberger, the 10 year old Amish girl who has fled the US to escape being taken away from her parents and forced to do chemotherapy against her wishes by Akron Childrens Hospital in Ohio.

This will make your blood boil.' -Chris Wark

Greek coffee & the secret to longevity

'Greek Coffee… The Secret Of Long Life! We all heard both good and bad reviews on coffee, but Greek coffee is part of the Mediterranean diet daily for many generations.

A study of the people of the island of Ikaria, who are ten times more likely to live to the age of ninety than other Europeans, found that people who consumed Greek coffee had better health and longer life that those who didn’t drink coffee, or who drank other kinds of coffee.

Greek coffee seems to offer excellent health benefits, in particular, endothelial function, which protects the all important blood vessels, leading to improved circulation and blood pressure.'

Spicy pumpkin hummus

spicy pumpkin hummus photo

ED NOTE: I stick with including garlic - yes! Just sample from the food processor as you mix.

'A great appetizer that captures the spirit of autumn, and takes only a couple minutes to make!

I've never succeeded in making a good hummus before. Though hummus recipes seem simple at first glance, getting the balance of ingredients just right is harder than you might think. For this recipe, the only change I made was leaving out the fresh garlic.

Though that's a key ingredient in most hummus recipes, it's also what usually ruins a recipe if you don't get it just right. Leaving it out actually worked really well, and this hummus turned out to be the best I've made.

I topped it off with a sprinkle of paprika and sesame seeds, and paired it with some black pepper crackers. It's delicious!'

Two More Children Left Paralyzed by Vaccines Before Chinese CDC And WHO Admit Vaccines Cause Paralysis

'In a shocking report, the Global Times reported that an expert from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Wang Yu, has openly admitted that vaccines can cause severe adverse reactions, including swollen organs, epilepsy, and in some instances, the diseases that they were supposed to prevent!

His startling revelations came when newspapers revealed that two small children had become paralyzed after they had received childhood vaccinations. Dr. Wang Yu stated:

“Some recipients experience sudden swelling of the organs, which can be cured with timely treatment. Some, however, develop epilepsy. Others suffer irreversible damage to their bodies, an effect referred to as vaccine sequelae.”

In other words, vaccines can cause irreversible damage to a child’s body and brain as a secondary consequence of the vaccination. Despite this amazing turn of events, it appears that this story has been passed by, largely unnoticed.'

3 Ways to Heal A Stressed Metabolism

'Do you have a stressed metabolism? Have you ever lost weight by going on a restrictive diet, then gained it all back (even if you didn’t entirely abandon the diet)?

Or maybe you’ve got thyroid problems, irregular menstrual cycles, mood swings, or acne? Are you tired during the day and alert at night?

If any of these sound familiar, it’s likely you have a stressed metabolism. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to stay that way. You can heal your metabolism and restore your health!

What is metabolism?

Put simply, your body’s metabolism is the rate at which your cells produce energy. It’s responsible for regulating all the cellular functions of your body.

So naturally, when your metabolism is stressed, it has the potential to throw a lot of systems completely out of whack.'

4 Natural Tips to keep your body on track during Daylight Savings Time

ED NOTE: Despite the fact that the author's mistake or typo says November 3rd is daylight savings time (it should be ENDS daylight savings time) there is good info within the article.
'Sunday, November 3 is daylight savings time, where people set their clocks back (remember the phrase: Spring forward, Fall back) one hour beginning at 2:00 am. While most of us are used to this, it’s not uncommon for many to frown upon the change, complaining of going to work and waking up in the dark.

Their complaints aren’t unwarranted. Disruption in light affects our internal clocks which in turn alters our sleep/wake cycles, or circadian rhythm. At the root of this cycle is melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate these cycles. With the onset of the time change in the fall, melatonin production starts earlier in the day, essentially throwing our bodies out of whack.'
