FDA May Be Getting Ready To Water-Down Your Vitamin Pills

'It’s been on the docket since 2007 for the Food & Drug Administration to revamp nutrient guidelines for the American population. The FDA says it is close to issuing a new guideline that may water-down essential nutrients in foods and multivitamins.

At issue is whether the FDA will use the relied-upon RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) that covers the nutrients needs of 98% of the population or the EAR (Estimated Average Requirement) which only addresses the nutrient level needed to meet the needs of 50% of the population.

While the proposed FDA rule is anticipated any time now (it will have to withstand a public comment period), one wonders whether the FDA will take into consideration a newly-published report showing the Estimated Average Requirement (EAR) level would leave many Americans short of meeting their need for essential vitamins and minerals.'

Greece to De-criminalise All Drugs

'The Greek government made the first big step regarding decriminalization of drug use. Justice Minister Miltiadis Papaioannou presented to the Greek Parliament the basic ideas of a new law concerning drugs. He announced that, for the first time, drug use will be fully decriminalized in Greece, on the condition that the drugs used harm only the behavior and the condition of the user. However, the Minister noted, the possession and supply of drugs and cultivating of cannabis remain punishable actions.

The Minister explained that these actions would be now regarded as misdemeanors, as long as it effects only the user and no others. Minister Papaioannou noted that the law had to be changed because of the minor danger of specific actions. In this way, police will have the ability to deal more quickly and easily with more severe issues. The Minister stressed that the law has a therapeutic approach to the issue and every drug user will be treated as an addicted person who needs help rather than punishment.'

The Immune Booster in Your Spice Cabinet

'Researchers at the Department of Pharmacology, University College of Medical Sciences, in Delhi, India conducted a trial involving the essential oil of clove. They tested the effect of the oil on red blood cells and found it caused a significant increase in the primary as well as secondary humoral immune response.

It's not difficult to add some cloves to your diet. The spice is popular and is often used to add a sweet and aromatic taste to pumpkin pie, muffins, cookies, and breads. Cloves are also added to many entrees.'

The Failure of Raw Milk Prohibition

'The August 3, 2011 shakedown of the Rawesome food cooperative in Venice, California, in spite of the tragic outcome, has produced one positive result. The ruthless raid on the part of miscellaneous government agencies has sparked a wave of unprecedented discord over the question – How can government dictate what we choose to eat when we each have unique standards for good nutrition?

This federalista blitzkrieg came at a time when raw milk alarmism had reached an all-time high. The folks who wish to banish raw milk can’t leave the issue alone, and instead they have ramped up a cacophonous crusade against one of nature’s natural glories. Day after day, articles and news bits appear in the mainstream media, full of fear mongering and panic-producing propaganda in regards to the safety of raw milk.'

Reverse Osteoporosis By Simply Drinking Lactoferrin, Find It In Your Fridge

'Did You Know…that a whey protein found in milk can be taken in supplement form to reverse osteoporosis, treat iron deficiency, as well as restrain the growth of HIV?

You may have seen the advertisements and TV commercials about potent bisphosphonate drugs that treat and prevent osteoporosis.

Such drugs are marketed to post-menopausal women who are at highest risk of acquiring osteoporosis. The drugs, however, come with potential side effects that are serious.'

Monsanto Corn Crop Failures Prove You Can't Fool Mother Nature

Dead fields by Monsanto

'In Illinois, Monsanto's insect killing corn is keeling over dead. Apparently, super insects have developed as a direct result of their Bt corn. The crops are grown from the seeds of their own destruction.

It should come as no surprise. Just as drug-resistant bacteria develop from antibiotics, pesticide-resistant insects develop from pesticides. The bottom line isn't always the money that Monsanto focuses on. Ultimately, Mother Nature dictates another bottom line, and that may be death.

By taking the easy way out, Agribusiness is creating a monster that's worse than what they started with.'

The War on Raw: Your nanny state boils the milk, but you don’t have to drink it

 Michael Schmidt, Raw Milk Folk-Hero

“It’s banned in Canada and 18 US states, but it’s legal in Europe and always has been. Three in California were recently arrested for selling it. In other states, everyone from local police to the FDA take it upon themselves to eradicate it, even where laws permit its production and sale.'

'Is raw milk really the pathogen-loaded drink of insanity that the mainstream media has made it out to be? Of course not. Is there any reason to prefer it over pasteurized milk? Well, people wouldn’t be going to jail in their determination to consume and sell it if there wasn’t.

We tend to think of pasteurized milk as the norm, but really, it’s only a recent phenomenon. The practice of pasteurization began around the period of industrialization in the US – the late 1900s and early 20th century. Around this time, farmers quit their livelihoods in mass numbers to take jobs in the cities.'

Are vaccines being forced on seniors?

Forced Vaccines

By Maurine Meleck
Source: The Augusta Chronicle

'The federal government and health officials not only are targeting children for vaccines, but their new “reality show” also is aiming for senior citizens.

Here’s how my doctor recently told me how it works: You are a senior covered by Medicare insurance, and you go to your annual doctor’s office visit. Before the visit is over, your doctor will recommend you get a number of vaccines – that the government has previously recommended – that the doctor asks you to take. If you refuse the shots, it is duly noted on your medical record, which will be transferred onto a new federally mandated electronic chart.

Scary enough, but here’s more: The doctor serving you is only allowed a certain percentage of vaccine refusals. If there are too many, Medicare will limit the normal payments he receives for certain patients.

It is not the government’s business what drugs you or I choose to inject into our bodies at any age. What next? Will the Big Brother of senior vaccines come knocking at my door? This is one reality show we can all do without.'

Help Save Heirloom Seeds and Keep Monsanto Out of Your Garden

Landreth Seed Catalog

'Monsanto is literally trying to take over agriculture. To this end, they are buying out seed companies. You can help save one that's pledged to organic non-GM seeds.'

'The oldest American seed company needs your help. They sell nothing but heirloom organic seeds. There isn't a single genetically modified variety in stock. Landreth has been a gardener's mainstay for well over 200 years. But they're about to go under because of a corporate bank's insistance that a loan be paid in full by the end of the month.

Monsanto is taking over seed companies, and now owns 40% of the seed business. If their goal is to broaden seed varieties, they have a strange way of demonstrating it. It's growing more and more difficult to find organic seeds, and Monsanto's business methods have shown their desire to force out all seed varieties that aren't genetically modified, requiring ongoing payments to them.'

New Zealand --WAKE UP! Food, illegal? Not in my back yard...

'Warrantless searches of houses and marae for food and seeds, even with guns, are coming to NZ soon thanks to the Food Bill – unless you do something.
The following video shows a SWAT team raiding a health food store in California. The Food Bill paves the way for this to happen in NZ (yes, also with guns, in clause 265 – 1). This site deals with Solutions to this Very Big Problem. Please watch the video, listen to the audio, and read the text and comments. Thank you.

'What is the Food Bill?
- A Government Bill introduced to Parliament in May 2010, which has since passed its first reading and been through a Select Committee review. It is awaiting a second reading as at 20 July. It may be enacted in the near future.

What are the problems with the Food Bill?

- It turns a human right (to grow food and share it) into a government-authorised privilege that can be revoked by the Governor-General.

- It makes it illegal to distribute “food” without authorisation, and it defines “food” in such a way that it includes nutrients, seeds, natural medicines, essential minerals and drinks (including water).'

The local food shift: What every public official, political candidate and voter should know

By Michael Brownlee
'The local food shift is gaining significant traction in Boulder County, growing well beyond the euphoric early adopter stage into early majority territory. It is unfolding so rapidly and so unpredictably that it could well be called a revolution. If it hasn’t already, the issue of local food is about to land on the desks of public officials and political candidates, perhaps even in unexpected ways. One candidate, aware of this shift, contacted Transition Colorado and requested “talking points” on this important issue.'

Schools Really ARE Prisons

EFSA boss: “We were pressured by industry to hijack science”

'When will someone consider the health and welfare of consumers? What does it take to remove a deadly addictive, excitoneurotoxic, carcinogenic and genetically engineered drug that damages the mitochondria and interacts with drugs and vaccine? Aspartame Disease is now a global plague triggering epidemics of obesity, diabetes, MS, lupus, cancer, seizures, blindness, psychiatric problems, birth defects, sudden cardiac death and neurodegenerative diseases, for starters.

Further, the free methyl alcohol is 35 times too high in the UK and 44 times too high in the US, with consumers dying of methanol poisoning. Charles Fleming was one of them, and his wife Diane, who passed 3 lie detector tests, was sentenced to 30 years in prison where she still remains after 9 years of efforts to free her.'

Does Marijuana Make You Stupid?

'This study builds on previous work by Harvard researchers demonstrating that the learning and memory impairments of heavy marijuana users typically vanish within 28 days of “smoking cessation.” (The slight impairments still existed, however, one week after smoking.) While several days might sound like a long hippocampal hangover, heavy alcohol users typically experience deficits that persist for several months, if not years. In other words, heavy marijuana use appears to be a lot less damaging than alcoholism.

Taken together, these studies demonstrate that popular stereotypes of marijuana users are unfair and untrue. While it’s definitely not a good idea to perform a cognitively demanding task (such as driving!) while stoned, smoking a joint probably also won’t lead to any measurable long-term deficits. The Dude, in other words, wasn’t dumb because he inhaled. He was dumb because he was The Dude. (All those White Russians probably didn’t help, either.)'

Meatless Monday: Supergreen Pesto Hummus Pumpernickel

Supergreen Pesto Hummus

'In the warmer months, pesto reigns king among spreads and sauces. Light and fresh, an almond and parsley-studded smear is ideal for imbuing bright notes of deliciously herby flavor. Spruce it up with a bit of creamy chickpea hummus though, and you'll be spooning mouthfuls straight from the jar.

Great as an appetizer or afternoon snack, but even better when brought along for a picnic in the park, pesto hummus is a wonderful condiment to keep around. I spread it over pumpernickle toast, and then topped it with diced mango. As beautiful as the teeny squares looked, I couldn't help but devour them one after another, not when they were that delicious.'
